West Side Story

Sixty years after its world premiere, the classic Broadway musical West Side Story is to return to the Netherlands, but for only four weeks!

“No. 1 Greatest Musical of All Time” – The Times

From the very first note to the closing seconds, West Side Story is one of the most beloved musicals ever and one of the greatest love stories every conceived. The story remains as compelling and modern today as it was at its Broadway premiere, 60 years ago this year. The musical explores issues that continue to be relevant today, such as racism, immigration and the right to bear arms. West Side Story, featuring music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, is widely regarded as the best musical ever composed.

West Side Story transposes the romantic story of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet to 1950s New York City. Tony and Maria are two young lovers caught in the middle between two feuding street gangs: the Jets and the Sharks.
Their battle to survive in a world filled with hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-breaking and relevant musical dramas of our time.

West Side Story, with its bounty of memorable songs, including Maria, Tonight, I Feel Pretty and Somewhere, is performed by a talented and energetic American cast and features the brilliant original Broadway choreography by Jerome Robbins.
